Our Physician Urologists are highly trained to treat disorders of the male and female urinary tract (bladder, ureter, kidney, and urethra) and the male reproductive system. Urology is classified as a surgical subspecialty, but because a variety of clinical problems are encountered when treating urological conditions, knowledge of internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, and other specialties is required.
Dr. Slutsky is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Slutsky feels one of the biggest medical challenges facing senior citizens today is urinary incontinence. He has been active in treating the various causes of the disease, utilizing either medical management, or the latest techniques in surgical and reconstructive repairs. "Women especially are suffering through the embarrassment of incontinence, primarily for lack of knowing where to seek help, and sometimes wondering if help exists at all," states Dr. Slutsky, who also serves as an Assistant Professor of Urology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, where he has taught residents in incontinence surgery, and where he himself was trained. Residents from Rush University Medical Center Urololgy Program are under his direction for robotic and laparascopic surgery training. Dr. Slutsky has been serving the Kankakee and surrounding communities since 1980, and was the first physician to offer the area electro-hydraul>ic shock-wave therapy for kidney stones, thereby reducing the need for surgery. Dr. Slutsky also introduced laser prostate surgery, laparoscopy for prostate cancer and a host of new and innovative prostate treatments. In addition to receiving his pediatric urology training at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Dr. Slutsky is also Member of the American Urological Association, and a published author of scientific articles in publications such as The Journal of Urology. |
